Spaying and neutering

Spaying and neutering are the most common routine operations and one of the best decisions for your pet’s long-term health.

  • Monitored anaesthesia
  • Usually home the same day
  • Post-operative check-up

About this service

Besides preventing litters, spaying greatly reduces the risk of pyometra (womb infection) and mammary tumours in females, while neutering lowers the risk of prostate and testicular disease in males. Behaviour usually becomes calmer too: less marking and fewer escapes from home.

The operation is done under general anaesthesia after a clinical exam and, if needed, blood tests. We also treat cryptorchidism, where one or both testicles have not descended into the scrotum.

Frequently asked questions

At what age is it recommended?

Usually between 6 and 12 months, depending on species, breed and size. Your vet will recommend the best time.

Will my pet put on weight after spaying?

Energy needs go down, so portions should be adjusted. With the right diet and exercise, your pet will keep a healthy weight.

How do I care for the wound at home?

Stop your pet licking it (cone or recovery suit), keep the wound clean and dry and follow the prescribed treatment. Stitches are usually removed after 10–14 days.
